LENTEN REFLECTION – THE IMPRINT OF LOVE FROM THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

Lent is always a special time in the liturgical year, a time when we are invited to return to ourselves, to reflect on our journey of faith, and above all to contemplate the redemptive love that Christ has accomplished through His Precious Blood. Within the spirituality of the Precious Blood, Lent is not only a season of repentance, but also a time to experience more deeply the value of sacrifice, of self-giving love to the very end, and of the gift of salvation freely offered.

The Precious Blood that Christ shed is not merely a sign of suffering, but the source of new life. Reflecting on this during Lent, we come to realize that every small sacrifice in daily life, when united with the sacrifice of Christ, can become a means of grace, not only for ourselves but also for others. In this light, pastoral activities and encounters with those who suffer are no longer just things we “do,” but become a true “communion” in redemptive love.

The pastoral visit of the brothers from the Francis Xavier Formation House to Hospital 1A was a vivid experience that helped us grasp this truth more deeply. There, we met Brother Khương, who is quietly serving among the patients. His daily presence, patiently accompanying them in their rehabilitation journey, is a concrete witness to a life of self-giving. He does not only care for their physical needs, but also uplifts their spirits as they face their own limitations and suffering.

As we entered the patient rooms, we could not help but feel moved by the many different situations: some had lost the ability to move, others were learning again how to take each step, each small movement. Yet in that very place, we encountered something profoundly meaningful: the human desire to live, hope, and persevere. Smiles, grateful eyes, and even simple moments of listening became deeply human, yet also deeply sacred experiences.

We tried to visit, encourage, and share with each patient. Simple words such as “stay strong,” “God is with you,” or a gentle touch of the hand, became powerful sources of encouragement. In those moments, we realized that we were not the ones “giving” something; rather, we were the ones receiving so much, lessons in perseverance, faith, and the value of every breath and every step.

In a special way, as we watched the patients striving daily in their rehabilitation, we saw a reflection of our own spiritual journey during Lent. Just as they must patiently take step after step to recover physically, we are called to persevere in our inner life: to let go of bad habits, to grow in love, and to trust more deeply. And just as they cannot move forward without support, neither can we advance without the grace of God.

This visit, therefore, was not merely a pastoral activity, but a “living retreat.” There, we witnessed how the Precious Blood of Christ continues to “flow” in today’s world, through the silent sacrifices of those who serve, through suffering embraced in faith, and through small but sincere acts of love.

As the visit came to an end, one conviction remained strong in our hearts: to live the spirituality of the Precious Blood is not something distant or abstract, but something very concrete, to be present, to share, and to love in real-life situations. Lent thus becomes not only a journey toward the Cross, but also a path of hope, where every drop of Blood shed is not in vain, but becomes a source of life for many.

And we find ourselves asking: in the remaining journey of Lent, what will we do so that this Precious Blood may continue to bear fruit in our lives? Perhaps the answer begins with very small things: a gesture of compassion, a word of encouragement, a sincere presence. It is precisely there that redemptive love continues to be written, quietly, yet powerfully.

THE JOURNEY TOWARD A MINISTRY OF HEALING

Each person’s vocational journey is a unique story, yet they all share a common point: it is a journey of learning to listen and to follow the will of God. For me, the path of religious life was not always clear from the beginning. There were moments when I questioned what I was truly called to do and which path God desired me to walk.

In religious life, the vow of obedience becomes an essential guiding principle. Obedience is not always easy, as it requires me to let go of my own plans and desires. Yet, in learning to trust and to follow the guidance of my superiors and my community, I gradually came to realize that God was leading me along a very concrete path.

Through this obedience, I was invited to enter into the mission of serving the sick. When I was sent to study and work in the field of healthcare, I discovered that this was precisely where I found joy and the deeper meaning of my vocation. Each day at the hospital, I see myself as a missionary bringing healing to patients. Every person I encounter is not simply a task to be completed, but a human being carrying within themselves pain, fragility, and hope.

In caring for them and helping them regain their health, I sense that I am, in some way, continuing the healing mission of the Congregation and of Jesus Himself. It is precisely in these moments of service that I discover the true happiness of religious life: to become a humble instrument of God’s love for others.

Looking back on my journey, I understand that obedience does not take away freedom or happiness; rather, it leads me to discover the path that God has prepared for me, the path of service and healing for those who are suffering.
